Hotel Description A small boutique hotel with 9 guest rooms,
Ionas Hotel is a carefully restored historical home, centrally located in a charming neighborhood
of the Venetian Port of Chania.
Situated in the most quiet, authentic section
of town, with many of
the city's monuments
and museums within walking distance, Ionas Hotel is also served by numerous local markets, cafes, and restaurants.
The hotel known today as Ionas can be found in the neighborhood of “Plathia Rouga” in Splantzia, in the old town of Chania on the island of Crete. Near the historic church of Agia Irini, it is also in the same neighborhood of the monastery Santa Maria della Misericordia, and is a fine example of a reconstructed architectural treasure of the most historical part of Chania.

Positives:
Delightful hotel, good breakfast, the room for three with the loft was beautiful. How thoughtful that they provided a clothes drying rack on the outside porch! Anyone who has been traveling for awhile truly appreciates that!
Negatives:
We arrived around 16:00, to find the door locked, with a sign that said "For Information call: ". We did not know the reception desk closes at 15:00 and after that you are to call for someone to come. It worried us that something had happened to the hotel, and we would not be able to get our money back. We had to walk a ways to buy a phone card and call. If reservation instructions would just say to be prepared to call them if you arrive after 15:00, then we would not have been alarmed, and would have done so before going to the hotel.

Review:
Although the front desk was not manned - and the hotel was locked - when I arrived, a telephone call brought very helpful staff to help me check-in. The hotel is a superb renovation of an old town house, and is a blend of thed ancient and the new. Rooms are quite small and the bathrooms also small, but they are well-presented and mine had a small balcony looking over a quiet alley. There is an excellent roof-top terrace, ideal for drying laundry and for sunbaking. An excellent hotel with only tiny flaws.
